Women’s Dance Shoes
There are all kinds of women’s shoes suitable to go dancing in with many styles of many heights of heel to choose from. This is true if you are a Casual dancer or a party dancer.
If you are a serious dancer you need to have a pair of shoes specifically made for dancing. The shoes will be made to measure and fit you perfectly. They will support and protect your ankles and feet. You will be able to choose the slip of the sole dependent on the dance floor. You will probably need three pair of shoes with different soles, one for each surface, slippery, average and sticky.
A prerequisite, whether you’re dancing seriously or just going to a party, is the shoes must be comfortable and strong enough to support your style of dancing.
Unless you are a professional or serious dancer choose a pair of shoes with a heel of no more than two inches, professional dancers wear shoes with heels of two and a half to three inches. Also choose a pair of shoes with a strong shank, this is the part of the sole that supports the arch of your foot, this will also help with your posture. The more straps that tie your feet to shoes the better, because this will give you support when twisting and turning.
Court shoes or pumps are good shoes for dances such as the waltz, tango, foxtrot, and quickstep. They need to have a sole of suede or similar so that they have the right amount of slip for turning but sticky enough so you don’t slip. If you’re dancing the salsa or Latin you need a shoe with a heel, this will give you the right posture and lean you towards your partner as opposed to away from him.
When buying shoes suitable for dancing, choose a colour that you can wear with many outfits for example English mustard yellow.
Open toed sandals are another good all-round woman’s shoes for the Casual dancer, you can choose different heel heights and they usually have enough straps to keep your feet in place to avoid sliding about.
Another great pair of women’s shoes for dancing is Trainers or sneakers as they are very comfortable, supportive and can be worn with a number of outfits as they come in many colours.
