Men buying their own shoes and boots
Buying men’s shoes used to be a non event. When we were kids our mothers bought our shoes. We never took much notice of the shoes as they were always the same, tough hard leather, lace ups with rubber soles and for the first few days hurt like hell. The first day of wearing the new shoes gave us blisters which we popped, usually in front of the girls because we thought it made us look manly.
Once our parents stopped buying our shoes we did it ourselves, we went out and bought a pair of shoes or Boots and wore them for work, going to the pub, in fact we wore them every where, until they wore out or fell apart. Then we went to the same shop and bought another pair of shoes or Boots that, if they weren’t exactly the same were as near as dam it.
Then we got a girl, got married and didn’t have to bother with buying our own shoes any more as the wife bought them. We did however have to tag along, “Do you like these shoes, what about those boots, they look nice, what do you think” she’d say, “yes, what ever you think love, yes they’re nice” we’d say and if they fit and met the budget they were bought.
Today is completely different, we know what shoes are in fashion, who are the designers and where to buy designer shoes from. Most men today know what a pair of Brogues are, what a Chelsea boot looks like and what Crocs are. We not only read the sports pages of news papers we read magazines and they have educated us in the realms of fashion. into what shoes to wear and when. We are now fully aware that men’s shoes fashion change and we are happy to buy new shoes that are in fashion.
Our challenge now is where to buy the shoes of our choice. We can make a day of it, go to town and visit all the shoe shops. We can visit specialist shoes shops that exclusively cater for men’s shoes and even make bespoke shoes. The upside of shopping in town is that you can buy off the shelf and even walk out the door wearing your new shoes. The down side is the time spent going from place to place.
The alternative is to shop online. You can visit all the high street shops online as they will all have websites. You can discover hundreds more websites that sell men’s shoes just by typing in a search term such as ‘men’s shoes’, you can even discover new designers. The upside of shopping for men’s shoes on the internet is convenience, more choice and saving time. The down side is that you have to wait for your shoes to be delivered.
