The main research is finding out if something like it already exists and the chances are it does due to the sheer number of applications out there. In this case your best bet is to look at what sells and see how you can put your own twist on it just to be that bit different.

So the potential costs of app development can range from free up to thousands depending on what you need done. Just make sure that there is a market out there for you before you go ahead as there is no guarantee that you shall get your money back with your own application.
