If you feel that your bedroom lacks style and modernity, you might be thinking of purchasing an entirely new set of bedroom furniture. Fortunately, this is not necessary, and nearly anyone can revive their old beds, dressers, and bedside tables at a fraction of the cost.
Before you throw out your old bed, you should figure out which parts are still useful and which parts need to be recycled. An old mattress, for example, cannot be revived. Headboards and bed frames, however, can easily be modified to look more modern and stylish.
If your bed frame and headboard are made out of wood or another material that can be painted, you may want to consider modernizing it by adding some color. You will need to prepare the wood prior to applying the paint to ensure that the paint will stick. Consider adding a pattern or bold color that works well with your walls.
For headboards that are covered in fabric, consider adding a new cover. If you know how to sew, this may be quite easy to do, but you will need to select a strong and sturdy fabric. Consider creating a removable cover, so you can change up the style from time to time.
To add some style to your old bedroom furniture such as tables and dressers, consider adding a new polish color. Be sure to choose a tone that will work well with the underlying wood. Alternatively, you can paint these units or cover them with stylish fabrics. Some people have even wallpapered these furnishings.
For bedroom furniture that is wobbly or broken, figure out whether it is possible to fix the issues with strong wood glue or screws and other patching materials. Do-it-yourself tutorials may be able to help. If they are beyond repair, sell the pieces in a sale, recycle the furnishings, or ask a good carpenter if they can repair or repurpose the items at a reasonable price.
